PhotoPrune helps you find and remove duplicate photos, screenshots, and blank or dark images so your library stays clean. We built it to be private by design. The short version: your photos are analyzed on your device, they are never uploaded to us, and PhotoPrune has no account or login.
1. The Short Version
- All photo analysis happens on your device. Your photos are never sent to our servers.
- There is no account and no sign-in. We do not ask for your name, email, or password.
- We do not sell your data, show ads, or use your photos to train any model.
- The only personal data involved is what is needed to process your optional subscription, handled by Apple and RevenueCat (see below).
2. Your Photos & On-Device Processing
When you start a scan, PhotoPrune requests permission to access your photo library and reads your photos only on your device in order to detect duplicates, near-identical shots, screenshots, and blank or dark images. This analysis runs entirely on-device using Apple frameworks.
Your photos, and the results of a scan, are never uploaded to us or to any third party. Scan results are stored locally on your device so you do not have to re-scan, and they are removed when you delete the app. When you choose to delete photos, PhotoPrune asks iOS to remove the items you selected; we never delete anything without your confirmation.
3. Information We Collect
PhotoPrune collects very little. Specifically:
- Photo library content — accessed on-device for analysis only, with your permission. Not collected by us, not transmitted off your device.
- Purchase & subscription data — if you buy PhotoPrune Pro, our payment processors (Apple and RevenueCat) handle the transaction and your subscription status. This may include a randomly generated, anonymous app user identifier, your purchase history, and basic device and country information used to validate and restore purchases. We do not receive your name or payment card details.
- Diagnostics from Apple (optional) — if you have enabled “Share With App Developers” in your iOS privacy settings, Apple may share aggregated, anonymized crash and usage diagnostics with us. You can turn this off at any time in iOS Settings.
PhotoPrune does not include third-party advertising or tracking SDKs, and we do not build advertising profiles about you.
4. How We Use Information
The limited information described above is used only to:
- Provide the app’s core photo-cleaning features.
- Process, validate, and restore your subscription or purchase.
- Diagnose crashes and fix bugs, where diagnostics are available.
- Respond to support requests you send us.
We do not sell your personal data, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not use your photos to train machine-learning models.
5. Third-Party Services
We rely on a small number of trusted providers to operate PhotoPrune. They process data on our behalf under their own privacy policies:
- Apple — distributes the app and processes all payments and subscriptions through the App Store and your Apple ID. See Apple’s Privacy Policy.
- RevenueCat — manages subscription status and entitlements. See RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy.
6. Data Retention
Photos and scan results live on your device and are not retained by us; they are removed when you delete the app or clear its data. Subscription records are retained by Apple and RevenueCat for as long as needed to provide and account for the service, in line with their policies and applicable law.
7. Security
Because your photos and scan results stay on your device, they are protected by your device’s own security, including your passcode and Apple’s data protection. Any subscription data exchanged with our processors is transmitted over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep the limited data we touch safe.
8. Your Rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR or California’s CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, export, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Because we do not maintain accounts and your photos never leave your device, most of your data is already under your direct control. To exercise any right relating to data held by us, or to ask a question, contact us using the details below. You may also contact Apple or RevenueCat regarding data they process.
9. Children's Privacy
PhotoPrune is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will address it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or on the App Store listing.
